Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS) ("FOCUS", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect through focusuganda.org, why we collect it, and what rights you have. It is written to meet our obligations under the Uganda Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019, and reflects the same principles for visitors elsewhere.
Who we are
Fellowship of Christian Unions (FOCUS), Plot 227/9, Kafeero Road, Mulago, Kampala, Uganda. Contact: gs@focusuganda.org, +256 788 582 852.
What we collect
We collect only what we need, and only when you choose to give it:
- Contact form. Your name, email address, optional phone number, the topic you select, and your message.
- Giving. Your name, email address, optional phone number, the amount and designation of your gift, and whether you asked to remain anonymous.
- Child sponsorship enquiries. The details you provide so we can match you with a child and keep you updated.
- Newsletter. Your email address, and nothing else, if you subscribe using the form at the foot of each page.
- Server logs. Our host records standard technical information such as IP address, browser type and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build profiles of visitors. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children through this website.
Payment details
We never see or store your card details. Payments are processed by PayPal and Pesapal on their own systems. When you continue to checkout you are handed to that provider, and their privacy policy governs what happens there. We receive only confirmation that a payment succeeded, together with the name, email and amount needed to issue your receipt.
Why we use your data, and on what basis
- To reply to you, because you asked us to (consent), given when you tick the box on the contact form.
- To send the newsletter, because you subscribed (consent). Write to us at any time and we will remove you.
- To process a gift and send a receipt, to perform the transaction you initiated, and to meet our accounting obligations.
- To keep the site secure, our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and fraud.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for marketing. We share it only with:
- Our payment providers (PayPal, Pesapal), to process gifts you make.
- Our email and hosting providers, who process data on our instructions.
- Regulators or auditors, where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages: kept while we deal with your enquiry and for up to 24 months afterwards, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscriptions: kept until you unsubscribe, then deleted.
- Giving records: kept for as long as accounting and audit rules require.
- Server logs: retained by our host on a short rolling cycle.
Your rights
Under the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019 you may ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data where we have no continuing reason to keep it;
- stop using your data for a particular purpose, or withdraw a consent you gave.
Write to gs@focusuganda.org and we will respond within a reasonable period. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Office of Uganda.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. We restrict access to personal data to the staff who need it, and we hold no card data at all. No system is perfectly secure, but we take these obligations seriously.
Links to other sites
Where we link to another organisation, a payment provider, a partner, a social media account, that site has its own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for it.
Maps and videos
The map on our contact page and the videos on our resources pages come from Google Maps and YouTube. They are not loaded until you click to show them, so opening a page sends nothing to Google. Videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) mode. Once you choose to load one, Google's privacy policy applies to that frame.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page.
