CU students get their hands dirty at Gerenge
Over this past weekend (23rd -24th October 2009), CU students from five campuses within and around Kampala converged and cleared close to an Acre of bushland at the FOCUS Training and Camping center, Gerenge. The activity was a whole day of hard labour digging and planting new grass in order to expand the camping centre grounds. Volunteer staff played are more supportive role.
The students take this as thier initial involvement and contribution in the development of Gerenge. The weekend marked the first step in Phase one of developing the 17 acre Gerenge land stretching along the shores of Lake Victoria.
Later in the evening, students went swimming in the lake and reclined together by the traditional Campfire for time of sharing testimonies and singing. Monies for food, tools and facilitation was contributed by various Associate individuals to whom the student movement is forever grateful.
All participants expressed great joy and satisfaction with the outcomes of thier hard work and demanded that more of these communical activities to be organized especially during holiday time. They also promise that the next time they are clearing Gerenge, will also be an opportunity to reach the neigbouring villages with the message of the gospel through thier love and acts of service.
